Sanibel
School kids to use travel guide to study island
Students
at the Sanibel School will be using "Sanibel & Captiva:
A Guide to the Islands" as a textbook. School Librarian
Katie Riemenschneider says kids will use the book in the classroom
for shell studies and island history, and as a field guide on
biking trips and in their work at the neighboring Pick Preserve.
The school received 30 copies of the guidebook on Dec. 2, donated
by authors Julie and Mike Neal. The colorful, 304-page guide
is the best-selling book on the islands.
Founded in
1896, the Sanibel School is the island's public K-8. The Pick
Preserve, a 64-acre conservation habitat managed by the Sanibel-Captiva
Conservation Foundation, is located across the road.
